Seven

Tempted by the nicer-than-usual weather, Grace chose to walk down to town hall for the meeting with Mayor Allen. It would be awesome if the temperature would hold through the weekend since a large part of the murder mystery dinner would take place outside. Unfortunately, a cold front was predicted to move in over the next few days, with flurries expected Friday night. She really hoped the weather wouldn't impact the event they had worked so hard to put on.

When she finally arrived, she saw she was the last one there; everyone else already seated and talking amongst themselves.

"There you are," Mayor Allen called out when he saw her enter the room. "Attention, everyone, it's time to call this meeting to order."

Grace felt a blush creep up her cheeks at the realization they had been waiting for her to start the meeting. She sat between Molly and Bea and tried her best to blend into the background.

"Grace," said Mayor Allen. "I trust you took care of that little problem we discussed last week?"

So much for blending into the background. "Yes, Sir," she replied. "We're going to partner with Cole and his bar."

Mayor Allen nodded. "That's a great idea. Not only does it solve our problem, it gets another business owner involved with the community. What about the food stations? We need to make sure those are up to code as well. Don't want any problems with the health department."

"The food stations will be located inside establishments already licensed to sell food. We're writing the mystery to include those locations so it makes sense and stays in keeping with the theme." Grace answered, somewhat nervous to again have all the attention on her. You would think by now she would have gotten used to it. You would be wrong. She wasn't sure there would ever come a day when she was comfortable speaking in front of a crowd. Even a small crowd full of people she'd known for most of her life.

Mayor Allen nodded again as he took notes in the notebook on his desk. "Sounds good; where are we at with the ticket sales?"

Finally, a question she was not expected to answer, Grace thought, sighing a little in relief. She listened as Molly gave her answer.

"At last count, we are now up to six hundred and thirty-five tickets sold."

Mayor Allen gave a low whistle. "That is a much larger number than I think any of us anticipated. Good job, ladies," he said, smiling approvingly at Molly and Grace. "Are we confident we can make enough food to feed everyone?"

"We're fairly confident," Addie answered. "I may have to close the diner on Saturday to get everything done, but if the number keeps increasing, it should be worth it."

"I agree," Bea chimed in. "Between the three of us and our staff, we should be able to handle it."

"Three of you?" Mayor Allen asked.

"Addie, Grace, and I," Bea answered.

Mayor Allen turned his attention back to Grace. "You're going to provide food for the dinner?" he asked, his brows raised.
